A few days ago, I made a change to a web page and uploaded it to the server. When I checked the page, I realized I had overwritten the latest version that Mari had created. Oops! With two of us maintaining our sites, it's imperative whenever one of us makes a change that the other downloads the latest version. Because it takes a good bit of time to scan each directory for new files, I tend to put it off, thinking I'll just check the date before uploading. That creates vulnerable situations. In order to get a list of recently changed files without needing to traverse each directory on the server, I created Master Changed Page Lister. I simply type in two dates, and click a button. The program then lists each file that was created or changed between those two dates. It's such a nice tool, I thought maybe you would like a copy. If you want it, it's free. You can pick it up at http://willmaster.com/a/13/pl.pl?mfcl Installation instructions are in the script. The program will likely have a number of uses. Whenever you need a list of files created/changed within a certain date range (which can start and end on the same day), this tool can give it to you. Because it lists the file's changed time along with the date, you can use Master Files Changed Lister to see if you've actually uploaded the latest version of a file or just thought about doing it. If more than one person maintains your site, or if you work on someone else's site, this tool can be indispensable for doing a quick check before uploading files. Can you think of other uses for this program? Write to us at the contact info below and let us know. Your ideas might make it into a future edition of WillMaster Possibilities or onto the software description page. By: Will Bontrager Copyright 2002 Bontrager Connection, LLC
